An interesting experiment was ventured by health economist Ebba-Karina Sander/MBA in early May in the small spa town of Bad Bocklet at the foot of the Bavarian Rhön. Probably the first time in Germany, she invited (from 1st-3rd May 2015) a interdisciplinary of chief physicians and general practitioners to a Forum in the Kunzmann’s Hotel and Spa, with its center for Ayurvedic medicine. Idyllic, family-run by the fourth generation 4-star hotel is located directly on the historic parks with well construction of the famous baroque architect Balthasar Neumann.
“Ayurveda meets Western medicine…or what we can learn from each other” – this title coined the program content so that different diseases were discussed in the Symposium, highlighting both from west-Medical Resident-point of view as well as from the perspective of Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medicine along with their nutrition, exercise and mental purification techniques and their understanding of responsibility provides our aging society a proven and yet highly modern instrument. It can be said that “Traditional Indian medicine” is in trend.
Several well-known hospitals in Germany are set to test in pilot projects and study the effect of Ayurveda: including the Immanuel Hospital in Berlin, the Protestant KH Hattingen headed by Prof. Horst Przuntek.
After introduction to the basics of Ayurvedic Medicine, Medical Director Dr. Jobin Joy Madukkakuzhy (from Kerala) explained the concept of Marma points and their intervention in the field of pain management and demonstrated this to different participants in the forum.
One of the focus of the event was the Ayurveda therapy “Shirodhara” (forehead) and its many applications in the area of ​​the autonomic nervous system as well as in trauma therapy. In an important contribution Dr. Holger H. Bring man described by the Department of Psychiatry at the University Hospital Halle/Saale, the development and definition of consciousness, the search for return link (religion), which is many not only be mental illness based. In the holistic approach of Ayurveda addresses these aspects of human existence and respectfully integrates into the treatment.
Ayurvedic, highly effective treatment strategies for psoriasis and atopic dermatitis described the Indian expert Dr. Sajan Joseph. And Dr. Annette MĂĽller-Leis gear, board member of DĂ„GAM (German Medical Society for Ayurvedic Medicine), the main sponsor of the congress, drew on her vast experience as a family doctor Ayurveda and occupational medicine and talked about effective treatment of asthma, metabolic syndrome and diabetes with focus on yoga and nutrition.
